Like a kid in a candy store at Biercamp in Ann Arbor
You know the saying … “like a kid in a candy store” … that’s EXACTLY how we felt at Ann Arbor‘s artisan meat shop and microbrewery,Biercamp, when we stopped there on our annual pre-Christmas beer tour.
We just couldn’t get enough and didn’t know where to look first! … or what to get to eat… we thought we were making a simple hot dog stop, a bonus to the beer we were after … but the choices, and not just of hot dogs, were many!
At Biercamp, we found artisan sausage and jerky, as it states on its business card, and a neighborhood artisan meat shop and microbrewery, which its web site says… this is TRUE… it is splendidly all of that! Biercamp has a full menu of sausages and sandwiches, pulled pork and smoked brisket, and all kinds of prepackaged items to take home…smoked fish, dips, cheese spreads, jerky! and more! … AND we found out fairly quickly upon arriving that it’s all made by hand, in-house with fresh, clean ingredients … we hit the jackpot here!
It was REALLY hard to just stick to the hot dog that we were going for, firstly because the hot dog choices are not “just a hot dog” and secondly, there were so many other tempting options (tots topped with smoked pulled pork!) … BUT we stuck with the dogs… Among our group, we got curry hot dogs, kobe beef, and kobe beef cheddar, and plus a Mediterranean dip, which was really, really good…we are big Mediterranean diet eaters and this hit it right … we also got hot dogs to go to share with family members who were missing out, because we are nice and it was soooo good!
The all-season beer garden runs across the front of the building … easy and convenient to bring the food/drinks out to, I think they actually brought it out to us when it was ready. We ordered at the counter. The wood framed, see-through tented enclosure has long picnic tables and hanging heat lamps. As a microbrewery, they did have about 5 beer options.
To get here, it took turning around to find where to park and where to go to access it… (it blends in a bit), but I’ll give you a helpful hint…it’s adjacent to a garden center parking lot and Biercamp has rear parking accessible from the right side of its building, which is on the other side from the garden center. Even the parking is quaint with a rustic, wood-like sign intertwined in vines with a bunch of sweet little birds hanging out. (Can you see the birds in the photo below?)
TOTALLY not what we expected … WAY BETTER! With its fresh food and beer to enjoy there, options to take home, very relaxed, friendly atmosphere and very accommodating (they sold one of us the remaining curry sausages they had to serve from the hot food menu to take home)!
Biercamp is a unique place. If we lived in the neighborhood, I’m sure we’d have been back at least twice by now. Have to think of a reason to go to Ann Arbor again! Oh, actually we don’t! … Biercamp itself is reason enough!
