Limit Pasta and Bread!?!

Limit Pasta and Bread!?!

EEEEEEECCCCCKKKKK!!!!! Limit pasta and bread? WHAT!?! ..I LOVE pasta and bread!  BUT one of my eaters is trying to limit carbs and so we’ve been looking for alternatives to the traditional as I try to play along. So, KETO bread (while about double the price of regular bread) is available at local grocers. Fine. Done.

However, pasta is a different story…frozen zucchini spirals are, IMO, expensive for what you get and soggy, blech! Haven’t made our own yet, but plan to. Dry pasta options made from various vegetables are still too high in carbs, and therefore “unacceptable” for the one looking for low carb. There’s spaghetti squash, which is good, but … IT IS SQUASH, not PASTA!

ENTER…Golden Farms Hearts of Palm Spaghetti Cuts!  Now this is a GREAT spaghetti alternative! It’s low carb, and low calories with a neutral flavor and very close texture and consistency to the real thing. VERY enjoyable without the carbs and heavy feeling one may get after a plate of pasta … And, it gets better, it’s even quicker to make than pasta! It doesn’t require boiling … just warm it in the sauce of your choice.

This is a WINNER! Even my husband liked it and mentioned “sneaking it in” for upcoming dinner guests who would benefit from it but would never try it on their own.

On the pricing, it’s more than your typical pasta BUT reasonably priced and less than the frozen zucchini spirals. We got a 3-pack of cans for $9.99. Each can is 28.2 oz.  A 1/3 cup serving size is only 18 calories making a whole can about 126 calories … MUCH MUCH LESS than typical pasta which is about 155 to 190 calories per cooked cup and about 40 grams of carbs. These Hearts of Palm Spaghetti Cuts have 3 g of total carbohydrate with 2 of those grams being dietary fiber.

I think even people not looking for low carb or plant-based foods would even enjoy this… I know we are glad we found it!

So, while this is new to us, I see there is a large selection out there of hearts of palm pasta to try. I’m so excited! You can check them out online here.
