The legend of the pineapple!
The legend of the pineapple…
This past summer, we were gifted with a decorative pineapple LED light. It was so fun we purchased another one to give as a birthday gift to a friend. We also threw in a bunch of single serving sized bottled margaritas to add to the festivities and island vibe. She liked it so much she asked where to get another one for her mom. I then thought I should get one for my mother-in-law, who started this trend with ours. Before I could do that, she had gone and gotten her own! It seems everyone wanted a pineapple!
I know we sure liked ours! This light was a great addition to our outdoor living area this past summer. It came in handy inside illuminating our whole kitchen and nook area when we had a power outage, and also, just this week served as a night light to prevent tripping in the dark as our bedroom area became crammed with furniture and accessories being stored due to a main floor renovation project.
So, while looking for this month’s Millie’s Musings I knew immediately I had found what I was looking for when I opened one of my mom’s little books to ‘the legend of the pineapple’ … it was perfect! BECAUSE as I was experiencing in life, everyone wants a pineapple!
Reading the note (pictured above), I learned the following: In the 1700s sea captains would spear a pineapple on a fence post outside of their home to let their friends know of their safe return from sea. The pineapple was an invitation for them to visit, share their food and drink, and listen to tales of their voyage. To this day, the pineapple continues to be a symbol of hospitality around the world.
How admirable!…The pineapple…a global symbol of warmth, reception and friendliness! I think this would make a great housewarming gift, and I just so happen to have a friend who recently moved into a new home. I know she will love this story as much as the pineapple. So, off I go to purchase another pineapple light!
