Apple Cider Vinegar a.k.a. ACV

Apple Cider Vinegar a.k.a. ACV

This month’s Millie’s Musings has taught me a lot more about Apple Cider Vinegar (ACV)! For several years, ACV has been my go-to remedy when feeling under the weather, and now, especially in the winter, I drink it daily in a cup of tea with honey.

My mom always had a teaspoon of it in the morning saying, “it’s good for you.” I started having a teaspoon of it about 15 years back whenever I felt a cold coming on to stave it off. For probably the past 4 years, I’ve been having it a lot in the winter months, and for the past couple years now I’ve been having it pretty much daily.  As time has gone on, I’ve learned about those health benefits that Millile said are “good for you” … ACV helps with cholesterol, helps flush fat, aides weight loss, boosts immunity…and now the note I’m sharing below for this month’s Millie’s Musings has taught me about about even more benefits! … including anti- aging!

The note says:

“ACV – Mix a tsp. or tbsp. in glass of water and drink it in the morning or before meals.  It is full of vitamins and minerals, fiber, enzymes and pectin and often attribute vinegar’s medicinal effects to the presence of these ingredients. Among the specific claims made for ACV are that: It reduces blood cholesterol levels and heart disease risk. ACV attaches to cholesterol and carries it out of body. High in potassium. Calcium in high content, aids in weight loss.

ACV: Contains high levels of antioxidant beta carotene (Vit A). Helps prevent cancer and ill effects of aging and various conditions, including coronary heart disease, cancer, and aging process.

Prevents osteoporosis.  ACV releases calcium and other minerals from foods you eat.

Vinegar allows body to absorb 1/3 more calcium from green vegs than it would without aid of vinegar. Also, a great source of calcium.”

News to me that ACV contains fiber, high calcium content as well as aids its absorption from green veggies, has high levels of beta carotene, can help prevent cancer, has vitamins and minerals (I just thought it was vinegar 😊 with a little magic that helped me not get sick!)

I really just was focused on it for immunity boosting, and general well-being, but…wowza! There are even more medicinal benefits than I thought! AND compared to other health supplements, it’s VERY inexpensive… a large bottle of Apple Cider Vinegar can be found between $5 – $8 usually.

Additionally, not part of Millie’s note, but something I learned about ACV is that you want to get it with “The Mother.” Bragg’s brand with the “Mother“is my choice!

You may see the “Mother” floating as a glob in the bottle. I think that’s the source of all those good things mentioned above. I’ll have to do some research on that and do a future post about the ACV “Mother.” Also, I think there are some benefits for hair, too. I’ll look into it!
