Celebrate National Dairy Month with Yogurt

Celebrate National Dairy Month with Yogurt and healthy mix-ins! June is National Dairy Month. Usually when I think of this month, I think of milk and ice cream (even though ice cream has its own month of celebration in July – National Ice Cream Month!). This year, however, I’m focusing on yogurt since it’s time for a Millie’s Musings and I was looking for something related to National Dairy Month to highlight. I must say most of her clippings related to food and health are NOT related to dairy. But … I found one! And it fits nicely with the reverse aging interest I’ve had lately… so here it is …

“Age-proof your smarts” reads the headline…” Enhance your focus with yogurt! Eat daily. The more probiotic bacteria our intestines get, the more brain-nourishing serotonin they make. Serotonin strongly contributes to sustaining brain health and positive good spirits,” says neuroscientist Michael Merzenich, PhD., a leading brain plasticity researcher and author of Soft-Wired: How the New Science of Brain Plasticity Can Change Your Life. You can read more about the book and purchase if you wish at this link. I haven’t read it yet, because I just discovered it, but I just put it on my MUST READ list!

SO that’s good news to me because I eat yogurt (whole milk GREEK) for breakfast A LOT and it’s something easy and inexpensive for everyone to get at the local grocery store.

I treat my morning yogurt like a mix-in ice cream sundae and pack it with healthy things I need to get in (honey, apple cider vinegar, fruit, flax seed, matcha, etc.). It’s a fun and efficient way to get my healthy food fix at the top of the day. Makes me feel good and like I accomplished something right from the start!

If like me you typically go to milk and ice cream, this year why not celebrate national dairy month with yogurt instead by being creative mixing in a bunch of other good things for even more healthy benefits! AND, just to be clear, I’m NOT saying to pass on the ice cream … DEFINITELY be sure to be “old school” and indulge in some of that, too! This month AND next!
