Tomato Tip… may help reduce sunburn, wrinkles and skin cancer

tomato tipMy mother is a reader… and along with it an avid recipe collector, important information underliner, rewriter and clipper of magazine articles. Just yesterday I came across an envelope of hers with a few  little clips in it and a couple sheets of paper with information handwritten on them… more than likely copied from a book she read….Interesting information she must have thought was useful and worth keeping and sharing.

So I was glad to happen upon it as while most of us probably naturally learn something new every day whether we realize it or not,  I’ve recently decided to consciously note learning something new each day… and what I found in the envelope gave me that opportunity as it was something I did not know and I did find interesting. Just one thing a day is fine and if I don’t just come across something and notice, I will seek something new out.  This is part of my way to get through this time.  When something I learn is related to food… I’ll likely share it here. This brings me to today’s “tomato” tip…

Did you know tomatoes could affect susceptibility to sunburn? According to “scientists” (unnamed in the note), 5 tablespoons of tomato paste with a little olive oil each day showed 33 percent more resistance to sunburn. Even better, this “tomato diet” may also have anti-aging effects as the lycopene in tomatoes is an antioxidant that may help in reducing premature wrinkles and skin cancer…To that, I say BRING ON THE TOMATOES! Good thing I LOVE tomatoes!!
